How to Invest In Yourself in 2022
Congratulations, you’ve made it to 2022! To kick off every year, we set goals to crush for what feels like a new chapter in our lives. This year, I hope everyone can restart from the last two and better themselves. Where should I start? COVID-19? Quarantine? Politics? Remote everything? So much happened within the last two years, but now, it’s time to prosper! I’m sure we’ve all had those late-night thoughts of completely turning our lives around overnight, but that never happens! So, here’s a guide on how to achieve those thoughts.
The first step in making a change is making a plan for yourself. What do you want to do, and how will you do it? The best way to make a plan is by getting a diary. On the first page, write all the goals you’d like to accomplish this year. We have too much going on in our heads, so getting your thoughts on paper will make more sense to you. Next, figure out how you’re going to accomplish your goals. This part is one of the essential steps in this journey. For some, writing a step-by-step process on how to achieve a goal helps you understand what exactly you need to do. Every day, week, two weeks, or month, update your diary with your progress on your goals. Tracking your progress is also an important step in this journey. Not everyone will have the same result and you might not get the result in the time you expected, but you have to be patient.
I can’t write how to help everyone with their goals, but I can tackle a few. If one of your goals happens to be learning how to drive, then this is what you can write. First, study for your learner’s permit exam. Then, take your exam (don’t cheat)! Since you have your permit now, you should start practicing driving with a close family member or other licensed adult you trust. Next, take a pre-licensing course. After that, you take a driving course with an instructor. Now you are ready to get your license. That’s how to get your driver’s license.
Another goal a lot of people have is working on their physical health. I know this is a difficult topic to discuss so the first and most crucial step would be understanding that it’s okay to be who you are as you are. If you are not comfortable with your appearance or just want to be healthier, you’re ready to change. The next step is doing a little research; find out what aesthetic you want physically to determine nutrition goals. Then, make a diet plan because if you are working but not getting the nutrients you need, you may not notice your desired changes. Companies such as Blue Apron and Fresh and Easy make healthy dieting more accessible since they provide affordable cooking options, healthy meals, and save one time. Next, if you have the equipment to work out at home, watch some videos on YouTube and get started. If you don’t, go to your local gym and make a membership. Some gyms might be expensive but investing in your health is like investing in your wealth. If you choose the gym option, get a personal trainer or go with friends who have experience at the gym (every friend always wants to see their buddy better themselves). If money is an issue, learn how to work out at home. YouTubers such as BullyJuice and Juice & Toya have numerous videos of working out with some things you can find within your house like books, chairs, and even towels. They even have workouts that require no equipment. Also, recording the amount of weight you could lift or how many calories you burnt is part of tracking your journey.
Over the last two years, our mental health has definitely taken a toll on us. We have been exposed to a lot of traumatic events, making some of us almost numb to everything. We’ve been stuck inside a hole that we haven’t been able to escape. To escape that hole, there are so many things that we can do. Our first step is reconnecting with nature, which may be as simple as going for a walk. Nature has so much to offer us but we don’t take advantage of it. “... nature is associated with increases in happiness, subjective well-being, positive affect, positive social interactions and a sense of meaning and purpose in life, as well as decreases in mental distress” (Weir, 2020). Another way to work on our mental health would be meditating. Meditating can lead to better focus and concentration, improved self-awareness, and better self-esteem. Finally, make good use of your free time. During our free time, we do things that we might regret later on and we think a lot; those thoughts can really break us down! To utilize your free time, try learning something new, like a language or a skill like coding. For example, coding requires you to focus on your work because if you don’t, you’ll have to restart, and it becomes very frustrating. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is one way to become stronger and more confident.
So, now you know how to invest and work on yourself. Like I said before, the last two years have been gloomy for us, but now, it’s time to change. Get that diary, make that plan, and get started. What are you waiting for? Don’t forget to update us on your progress or your attempts of making a change in your life, no matter how small. Below are our social media handles.
